Report: Gruden, Raiders Make Former Head Coach's Son QB Coach

The Raiders reportedly hired Brian Callahan as quarterbacks coach.

The last name should sound familiar. Former Raiders head coach Bill Callahan's son will work specifically with Oakland's signal callers, TheMMQB.com reported on Friday afternoon.

The Raiders did not immediately announce the hire.

This legacy hire joins a staff with three prominent coaches starting their second stint in Silver and Black. Head coach Jon Gruden (1998-2001) and offensive coordinator Greg Olson (2013-14) assume previously held posts on this staff.

Those two and Callahan will be hands on with Derek Carr, Connor Cook and other passers added to the roster.

That should complete the coaching staff. Gruden announced Olson, defensive coordinator Paul Guenther and special teams coach Rich Bissacia during his introductory press conference and the team announced 13 other coaches last week.

A quarterbacks coach wasn't among them. TheMMQB.com reported they interviewed Callahan and former NFL quarterback Tim Rattay for the position.

Callahan was Detriot Lions quarterbacks coach the past two seasons, and worked in Denver the previous six seasons.

Also, last year's assistant head coach – defense John Pagano, who called defensive plays after Ken Norton Jr. got fired, was hired as Houston's senior defensive assistant and outside linebackers coach.
