Super Bowl LIII: Rams Vs. Patriots Will Be Battle of Bay Area Quarterbacks

It's C.J. Anderson versus Julian Edelman, folks! Well, kind of.

While the two Bay Area natives will be in Atlanta for Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta on Sunday, Feb. 3, this will be all about the quarterbacks.

The final game of the 2018-19 NFL season will take place 17 years to the day that the Rams and Patriots played each other in Super Bowl XXXVI. That's not the only 17-year difference between these two teams, though.

Rams quarterback Jared Goff (24) is 17 years younger than the elder Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (41), who continues to defy time. In a matchup of young against old, the real battle will be Novato vs. San Mateo.

Goff hails from Novato, Calif., and starred at Marin Catholic High School before going on to Cal and becoming the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He completed 25 of his 40 pass attempts for 297 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the Rams' 26-23 win over the Saints in the NFL Championship Game.

Brady grew up in San Mateo, Calif., and played high school football at Junipero Serra High School before going to Michigan for his college years and being drafted in the sixth-round of the 2000 NFL Draft.

The rest is history.

On Sunday, Brady completed 30 of his 46 pass attempts for 348 yards, and threw one touchdown while being intercepted twice in the Patriots' 37-31 win over the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.

When these two teams squarred off last in the Super Bowl, the Patriots won 20-17 on a last-second field goal. It was the first of Brady's five Super Bowl victories.

Will we Brady win his sixth ring or Goff and the young Rams get in his way? Either way, the Bay Area couldn't be represented any better by two elite quarterbacks.
