The New Favorite Team for All Fans Who Bet on the NFL

For those of you who know that the secret to sports is being able to bet on it, you know that two things are your best way to regular wins.

Finding the best team that covers the spread most often, and finding the worst team that will almost never cover it.

Therefore, I give you your new favorite team. The New York Jets.

It must be the Jets, because unlike even the 49ers, who have their own issues but are at least planning to put rock bottom in the rear view mirror, the odds on the Jets have skyrocketed since the start of the year from 125-1 to 500-1, all because the Jets are giving every indication of modifying the well-known NBA tactic of tanking the season to football.

And you folks who bitched about the 49ers going down the swirler, or the lost decade of Raider football before Jack Del Rio and Derek Carr and Khalil Mack -- don't you feel like a right bunch of charlies now?

The Jets are so planning to stink the season out that they must think they'll get the first two picks in the draft for trying extra hard. And since Vegas has caught on to that, Vegas being fact-and-math-based, you can only assume that the rest of us have as well.

That means that the Jets could end up double-digit underdogs to a team like the Browns or Bills, and be massive betting line kick-me signs to teams like the Raiders and Patriots. They could do the 0-16 thing so hard that they could seek out Dennis Allen or Chip Kelly for guidance.

And that means betting opportunities galore, which is the only real reason football exists at all. So Go Jets -- as long as we know what direction they intend to go in. I mean, there's nothing worse than losing all your games and going 8-8 against the spread; when Detroit went 0-16 in 2008, the Lions were 6-9-1 against the line and 11-5 against the total. I mean, what's the point? Either embrace your awfulness or try to win the damn Super Bowl.

Hey, that's how the Raiders got so good. They used to be a consistently lousy play, and now look where they are. Al would be proud. Well, he'd be proud if Derek Carr has a bigger arm.
