Free Agent Haley Leaves Sharks for Panthers

Micheal Haley, who spent the last three seasons in San Jose, signed a two-year deal with the Florida Panthers in a decision that could have been influenced by their new head coach, Bob Boughner.

Known more for his fists than his scoring touch, the forward registered three goals and 10 assists for 13 points and 187 penalty minutes in 78 career games with the Sharks. Haley spent three seasons in the Islanders organization and one in the Rangers organization before joining the Sharks on July 10, 2014.

"Micheal will help support our core group with his leadership and toughness," Boughner said in a statement. "I know what sort of impact he has in the room and on the ice. He's the type of person and player that we need."

Panthers general manager Dale Tallon said: "He fills a need for our club and will help us get back to playing with the sort of passion and grit that will help us win."

Haley, 31, posted 12 points (2g, 10a) and 128 penalty minutes in 58 games with the Sharks last season. His 128 penalty minutes was fourth in the NHL.
