Pavelski, Team USA Down Donskoi, Finland in World Cup Prelim

Playing in its final preliminary game of the World Cup of Hockey, Team USA downed Finland at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, 3-2. The Americans won two of their three preliminary games, while Finland went 1-2.

T.J. Oshie, Ryan Kesler and Derek Stepan gave the Americans a 3-0 lead they took into the third period, before a pair of scores by Finland's Patrik Laine and Jussi Jokinen made it close. Finland had a power play with 2:02 left in the third period after a delay of game minor to Ryan Suter, but couldn't force overtime.

Jonathan Quick made 27 saves for the win, while Pekka Rinne allowed three goals on 29 Team USA shots.

A pair of Sharks played in the game, one on each side. Neither captain Joe Pavelski nor Finland forward Joonas Donskoi found the scoresheet.

Team USA opens up the tournament on Saturday in Toronto against Mikkel Boedker and Team Europe (12:30 p.m. PT, ESPN2). That will be followed by Team Canada, featuring four Sharks, against the Czech Republic at 5 p.m. PT.

The World Cup will run for the rest of the month, with all games at the Air Canada Centre.
