Sharks Re-sign Restricted Free Agent Kevin Labanc to One-year Contract

The Sharks still had a couple of players they wanted to sign to contracts after a busy first day of free agency on July 1. One week later, they are able to cross one of those name off of that long list of restricted free agents, announcing Monday morning that forward Kevin Labanc has been signed to a one-year deal.

"Kevin took a big step forward in his production last season and has grown into an important part of our team here in San Jose," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said in a statement. "He's always had a dangerous shot but really stepped into a playmaking role for us last season and improved his 200-foot game as well. We think he still has even more potential to tap into and we're excited to see what he can do with an elevated role with this talented group."

Labanc was one of the young Sharks players to step his game up over the course of the 2018-19 season. After a slow start, the 23-year-old forward found chemistry on a line with Joe Thornton and Marcus Sorensen, and became a difference-maker for the team through its playoff run.

The financial details of the deal were not disclosed on Monday per team policy.
