Sharks Trade Reigning AHL Goalie of the Year for Late Pick

Troy Grosenick briefly took the Sharks by storm.

With then-backup goaltender Alex Stalock injured, Grosenick set an NHL-record with a 45-save shutout in his debut on Nov. 16, 2014 against the Carolina Hurricanes in front of his family. He started again the next game, but never took the crease in the NHL for San Jose again.

Just over four years later, the Sharks traded Grosenick and San Jose Barracuda teammate Brandon Bollig to the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2018 sixth round pick, the team announced on Sunday.

Grosenick, who was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2013 and won the Baz Bastien Award as the AHL's best goaltender in 2016-17, had fallen down the Sharks' depth chart since his sparkling NHL debut. Aaron Dell beat him out for the backup spot with the big club in 2016, and ceded the Barracuda's crease to 2017 free agent signee Antoine Bibeau this season.

In 20 AHL games this season, Grosenick posted a .902 save percentage and 2.98 goals against average along with a 6-9-4 record. He finishes his AHL career in the Sharks organization with an 85-56-16 record, a .908 save percentage, and a 2.59 goals against average.

The Sharks now have six picks in the upcoming NHL draft, including two in the sixth round. They do not own any picks in the second or third round of the draft.
