While Making Cupcakes, Kevin Durant Opens Up About ‘Red Velvet' KDXs

On Sept. 1, the sweetest version of Kevin Durant's signature shoes dropped.

The cupcake-inspired 'Red Velvet' KDX were released with much buzz.

On Wednesday, Durant teamed up with Buzzfeed Tasty to make a batch of Red Velvet cupcakes and explains the thinking that went into the kicks.

"My favorite memory of Red Velvet was being called a cupcake every time I touched the ball in Oklahoma City. That was fun. that's why it's so funny to us after we won the game. It was kind of a little jab to the fans in Oklahoma City. But it was all in fun and games. But to have that support from your teammates especially when you're going through a new experience like that, it was really refreshing to see them support me. It shows the fans were getting really creative and they're really invested in their team and the sport of basketball. So I looked at it as a positive. There was a lot of speculation on who I was and why I made the decision to leave where I was for nine years to go to another team. Everything was in question, my character, why I decided to make this decision and who made me make this decision. I just wanted to show everybody that it came from me and I'm still the same person I was before I made the decision. Me being with Nike, everything was coming together at that time and for us do 'Still KD,' have the KDX come out and win a championship, it was just perfect," Durant said in a video posted on Instagram.
