Draymond critical of his defense this year, 'it's a tough adjustment'

Through 39 games this season, Draymond Green is averaging 11.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 7.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.

He is shooting 45.4 percent overall and 30.5 percent from deep.

"I think I've been pretty good playing through the injury," Draymond told reporters after practice on Friday. "Could be a lot better but you go through what you go through and you deal with it ... I'm very critical of myself so I think there are a lot of areas I can be better at."

Last season, the Warriors' defensive rating when Draymond was on the floor was 99.3.

This season, the Warriors' defensive rating when Draymond is on the floor is 101.3.

Last season, Draymond contested 13.7 shots per game -- 5th most in the NBA.

This season, Draymond is contesting 10.8 shots per game -- 17th most in the NBA.

Last season, Draymond averaged 3.9 deflections per game -- tied for the second most.

This season, Draymond is averaging 2.7 deflections per game -- tied for 22nd most.

"I think I kind of caused a little more confusion on the defensive end last year than I have this year -- for other teams," Draymond said. "I've been OK. I don't think I've been great...

"They can't really study me. I think it's more just people are spreading out the floor so much that so you gotta be conscious of when you're helping ... the one thing I've tried to focus on is being better covering 3-point shooters. Doing that, you can't help as much."

    Is that a tough adjustment?

"Yeah, because I love going to help. It's a natural instinct," Draymond said. "It's a tough adjustment, but it something that I'm aware of."
