LeBron James Ramps Up Anthony Davis Speculation With Latest Comments

LeBron James didn't hide how he and all Lakers fans feel. The player, and those who pay to watch him, want Pelicans star Anthony Davis in Hollywood.

"That would be amazing," James told ESPN's Dave McMenamin this past Friday on the prospects of playing with Davis. "That would be amazing, like, duh. That would be incredible."

Of course, this is exactly how any player on any team would feel about adding a superstar like Davis to its roster. But this is LeBron and the Lakers where fiction meets reality.

Speculation of Davis one day joining the Lakers started the moment LeBron shifted gears to the West Coast. The rumors become much louder when the five-time All-Star switched agents in late September and signed with Rich Paul of Klutch Sports.

The news gave reason for this tweet from James, too.

Back to basketball. Let's slow down on placing Davis in purple and gold this season. While the Pelicans (15-16) are in the 12th place of the Western Conference standings, they're only three games back of the third-place Lakers (18-13), and have shown no signs of wanting to trade Davis.

The Pelicans had a fantastic second half last season, thanks to Davis looking like one of the top players in the league, before losing in the second round of the playoffs against the Warriors. There's still plenty of time to go on a run this year, especially when you have a player like Davis. One would have to assume New Orleans will look to add at the trade deadline and go for another playoff push.

If Davis does want to join The King in Lakers Land, he better ask for a trade now though before one of the NBA's greatest rivalries gets into a bidding war.

The Celtics have the best chance of any team to acquire Davis in a trade if he does become available. With possibly having four first-round draft picks next year, plus an array of young assets, Boston is primed to make a call to New Orleans.

James, like nearly everything he does, knew what he was doing when making his comments about Davis. The pressure is on for the Pelicans and they want to get to this summer with their star in good spirits as he is averaging 28 points, 12.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.8 blocks per game on a team playing under .500. Once they get to that point, the front office can offer Davis a supermax extension that would reward him $70 million more than anyone else.

While it can still happen one day, LeBron will have to go on with looking at Lance Stephenson in a Lakers uniform much longer than donning the same threads as Anthony Davis.
