In pursuit of their sixth straight Olympic gold medal, the United States proved once again they are the team to beat in the women's basketball tournament.

It was only the first game for the U.S. women's basketball team and they're already breaking their own Olympic records. With the devastating 121-56 win, the U.S. broke their own record for most points scored in the Olympics. The previous record was 114, set in 1992 and tied at the London Olympics.

Diana Taurasi set the tone early, hitting four threes in the first seven minutes against Senegal, en route to a record-breaking six three-pointers in the game. Taurasi's 12 points in the quarter outpaced the Senegalese team, who had 5 points at the end of the first.
