OAKLAND – Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant has been named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, November 21, through Sunday, November 27, the NBA announced Monday. The award is the 25th weekly honor of Durant’s career and his first as a member of the Warriors.
Durant posted averages of 24.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 2.75 blocks and 1.00 steals in 32.3 minutes during Golden State’s 4-0 week, helping the Warriors extend their current winning streak to an NBA-best 11-straight games. In Saturday’s 115-102 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Durant tallied 28 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and a career-high six blocks to become the first player in Warriors history to tally at least 25 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five blocks in a game (since blocks were first recorded in 1973-74).
The 6’9” forward recorded a pair of double-doubles (November 21 at Indiana & November 26 vs. Minnesota) and had five of Golden State’s franchise-record 47 assists in a 43-point win vs. the Lakers on November 23. In the following game at the Lakers on November 25, he dished out a season-high nine assists as the Warriors extended their streak of 30-assist games to 10, tied for the second-longest such streak in NBA history.
Durant owns averages of 27.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.59 steals and 1.59 blocks in 17 games this season, while hitting career highs of 57.4 percent from the field (including 58.3 percent on the week) and 44.6 percent from three-point range (50.0 percent on the week). The Warriors currently own the league’s best record at 15-2.
Durant is the 20th Warriors player ever to earn the honor, marking the 44th time a Warrior has been named Player of the Week since the NBA began giving out the award in 1979. Cleveland’s Kevin Love was named Player of the Week in the Eastern Conference.
