Warriors Paid High Price to Retain Iguodala, But They Can Finally Exhale

Bob Myers should sleep well Saturday night, even if his boss, Warriors CEO Joe Lacob, might toss and turn a bit.

For after all the handwringing and nail-chewing that Myers engaged in at the onset of free agency, the Warriors president/general manager ended up retaining the most important players on his championship roster.

It surely came a higher price than Lacob would have liked, but not so high that he was willing to sacrifice his team's best chance of winning.

With veteran wing Andre Iguodala agreeing Saturday night to a three-year deal worth a reported $48 million, the Warriors are now set to enter next season with their top six players, in terms of total minutes last season.

After tweeting that he "agreed to terms to return to the bay," Iguodala later confirmed the deal to NBCSportsBayArea.com.

All three years of the deal are guaranteed, according to league sources.

Iguodala joins Stephen Curry, Shaun Livingston and David West as unrestricted free agents that have agreed to return. Kevin Durant, who opted out of his contract, had already assured the Warriors that he would re-sign once they had completed business with those free agents identified as part of the team's core.

Of the team's four prioritized free agents, Iguodala was the only one to meet with other teams. He listened to three teams -- the Spurs, the Kings and the Rockets -- and reportedly received a contract offer from Houston on Saturday morning.

Within hours, the Warriors were swinging into action with an offer upgraded from the initial range, reportedly about $12 million. They met with Iguodala later Saturday in Los Angeles and negotiated the final terms.

The next priority will be to strike a deal with Durant, who could receive up to a 20-percent raise from last season, when he made $26.5 million. His salary for next season could be as much as $31.85 million.

It's all but certain that none of the other five free agents on the team last season -- Matt Barnes, Ian Clark, James Michael McAdoo, JaVale McGee and Zaza Pachulia -- will return next season. The Warriors certainly do not expect any to be back.

Myers, with the financial assistance provided by Lacob's pocketbook, completed the team's most pressing matters, and did it in the first 24 hours of free agency.
