Kevin Durant signed a four-year contract with the Warriors in free agency.
Yes, you read that right.
He then was shipped to Brooklyn in the sign-and-trade that brought D'Angelo Russell to the Dubs.
Details matter! And speaking of details -- the two-time NBA Finals MVP will most likely become a free agent again in the summer of 2022, not 2023.
Why? Because KD's deal contains a player option in Year 4.

Durant also has a player option in Year 4 and a full 15% trade kicker.
DeAndre Jordan's salary starts at 9.9M, goes up 5%, dips back down to 9.9M, then dips slightly to get him the rest of his 40M over four years.

In addition, shortly after Durant announced he would sign with Brooklyn, ESPN's Adrian Wojarnowski reported that the 10-time All-Star's deal was not a full max:

But when you factor in the "likely bonuses," the former Warrior should end up getting max money.
After winning his first title with the Dubs, Durant agreed to a contract that paid him $25 million in 2017-18 when he could have made just under $34.7 million.

After going back-to-back, he agreed to a contract that paid him $30 million in 2018-19 when he could have made $35.3 million.
