Durant Woke Up ‘anxious' to Start Camp With Warriors

OAKLAND – Having attended the annual team dinner Monday night in Oakland with his new teammates, Kevin Durant looked forward to his first day as a Warrior.

Maybe looked a bit too forward, as he woke up in the 7 o'clock hour.

"I was anxious," he said. "I woke up a little earlier than I wanted to this morning and was ready to go.

"I think that's every player that's starting training camp. The first day of camp, you're excited for the season. Everybody thinks they have a chance to do something special."

Durant soon discovered a Bay Area tradition that didn't generally intrude on him during eight years as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"I hit a little bit of traffic as I was on the highway," he said. "I wasn't used to that in Oklahoma City. It wasn't too bad. But that was a little different."

Other than that, the biggest free-agent acquisition in Warriors history expressed satisfaction with Day 1 as a Warrior. Durant is familiar with most of his teammates – particularly Andre Iguodala, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Durant played with Klay Thompson and Green on the U.S. Olympic team last month.

So he's not completely unfamiliar with these Warriors. But it's a process.

"We've got so much movement," Durant said. "We've got a lot of spacers, a lot of guys that can do multiple things on the court, whether it's shoot the 3 or drive to the rim or post up or make plays. We've just got basketball players here, position-less players, which makes it tougher to guard.

"I'm definitely excited to get out there and play. The first day was a good day."
