Giants Extend Bruce Bochy, Brian Sabean to 2016

The Giants extended Brian Sabean and Bruce Bochy through 2016 with an option for 2017 on Thursday

You know what happens when you win a pair of World Series titles in a span of three years? You get rewarded, that's what.

And the Giants have rewarded Brian Sabean and Bruce Bochy, extending them through the 2016 season the team announced Thursday night.

The extensions also call for team options for both Sabean and Bochy for 2017.

The manager and GM are paired together for better or for worse now, and it's mostly been better as of late. Sabean, despite some heavy scrutiny for many years (thank you Barry Zito!), assembled a roster that stunned the world by winning the 2010 World Series.

Now the roster is chock-full of homegrown talent and the Giants are coming off their second World Series under Bochy and Sabean, having overcome struggles from their ace Tim Lincecum to win anyway.

A large part of that is the way Bochy managed the roster that Sabean assembled. The GM swung struggling starter Jonathan Sanchez for Melky Cabrera before 2012 and despite Melky getting suspended for the latter part of the season, it was a steal and a half.

Sabean's managed to lock up Matt Cain and Madison Bumgarner and is in the process of signing Buster Posey to a long-term extension.

His drafting over the past few seasons has been, frankly, exceptional. And Bochy's been the guy who's managed the roster.

They're a fantastic tandem that's panning out wonderfully for San Francisco and now they're getting rewarded for their success.
