If you take a peek at the National League Wild Card race, you'll see the usual suspects...the Cardinals, Cubs and the front-running Mets. But not far behind (1.5 games), you'll see the Giants.
It's far too early to reserve any playoff tickets, but the Giants (30-27) are quietly enjoying their road trip. Matt Cain picked up his league leading 8th win as the Giants beat the Diamondbacks 9-4 on Tuesday night in Phoenix.
Though Cain wasn't sharp (6.1 IP, 4 ER, 6 hits, 5 BB), he was happy to benefit from the Giants offensive explosion. Pablo Sandoval had 4 hits, including the go-ahead 2-run homer in the 5th inning. Randy Winn delivered a run on his 35th birthday and Edgar Renteria and Juan Uribe had multiple hits.
Barry Zito starts for the Giants on Wednesday against Arizona's Doug Davis.
