Giants Like Brandon League: Report

Have you heard that the Giants want relievers at the trade deadline? You might have. And they do! In fact, they're "aggressively" pursuing relievers as the Tuesday trade deadline nears.

One such reliever they're interested in, according to Jon Paul Morosi of, is Brandon League of the Mariners.

League, 29, is a more attractive option than the geriatric relievers that the Rockies might be looking to peddle, especially given how he's bounced back from a bad start to the season.

The M's initially designated League as their closer to start the season, but he only picked up nine saves before being removed from that role after a nightmarish, earned-run-filled May.

Since then, he's allowed only four earned runs and has pitched quite well. His strikeout rate is lower than most would like, and his WHIP is still high, but he's been improving his walks allowed and his strikeouts over the course of the season.

Because of his age, he'll be a little harder to land in a deal, and the Giants, according to Morosi, also have competition in his services in the form of the Angels.

And League wouldn't automatically solve all the woes for the Giants, but he would present a viable option for the bullpen and wouldn't be too expensive because he's a free agent after 2012.

If the Giants can swing something for him that doesn't cost too much, it would be a very effective option for them moving forward.
