Giants Squander Opportunity Across the Bay

The table was set for the Giants to create a little separation in the NL West between them and the second-place Arizona Diamondbacks.

Mission not accomplished.

The Giants have now lost four straight games after a weekend sweep at the hands of the lowly Bay Area neighbors in Oakland and have watched as the Diamondbacks have pulled to within a half-game despite the fact they've lost two straight themselves.

It wasn't supposed to be like that.

The Giants have better pitchers than the A's, even though Oakland's strength is its starting rotation, but give me Tim Lincecum, Jonathan Sanchez and Matt Cain any day.

All three of them lost.

When the stars align, no pun intended, and you have those three going against one team in a three-game series, you aren't supposed to get swept.

But it happened.
