Giants Wrap Up Pre-Season With a W

The reigning World Champion San Francisco Giants wrapped up their pre-season with a win against their cross-bay rival the Oakland A's.

Wednesday's crowd at AT&T Park was smaller than Monday night's near sell out, but they enjoyed a beautiful day on the banks of the McCovey Cove.

The game was a low-scoring affair, with the A's holding a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the ninth.

That's when the Giants rallied with two runs. Mark DeRosa was the hero.  The fans walked away reenergized that baseball is back.

Thursday, the Giants officially begin their title defense against the dreaded Dodgers in Los Angeles.  The game will be on national television and first pitch is 5 p.m. (ESPN)

The team will start the season without closer Brian Wilson who was officially placed on the disabled list Wednesday. Wilson won't be eligible to come off the DL until April 6. Cody Ross is also on the DL with a strained calf.

One final happy note of the day:  the team has elected to keep Brandon Belt on the major league roster for the start of the season. Belt has a good chance to play first base on Opening Day.
