SAN FRANCISCO -- Steven Duggar wasn't allowed to dive this spring because there remained concern about his surgically-repaired shoulder. A tremendous diving catch months later knocked the outfielder out of a game against the Nationals.
Duggar saved at least a couple of runs when he chased down Juan Soto's liner in the right-center gap to end the fourth, running it down before he tumbled to the ground. He immediately grabbed at his left shoulder and took a long time walking off the field. A trainer was waiting in the dugout and Austin Slater took over in right field in the fifth.
Duggar hasn't had any real setbacks since having his torn left labrum repaired late last season. He made one diving catch in Los Angeles early in the season that was particularly uncomfortable and had a couple of other moments where the shoulder got stiff, but for the most part it hasn't been an issue.

The Giants already are short-handed in the outfield. Alex Dickerson is on the Injured List with an oblique strain and Slater was the only outfielder on the bench Wednesday.
