Giants' Steven Duggar to Have Wrist Examined After Tripping Over Bullpen Mound

SAN FRANCISCO -- The push to move the bullpens off the field at Oracle Park has picked up some steam.

A day after falling over the bullpen mound that runs alongside right field, Steven Duggar was out of the starting lineup. Duggar has a sore right wrist and "general" body soreness, manager Bruce Bochy said and will be checked out by a team doctor before Saturday's game. Duggar may also get an MRI.

The Giants have already begun the process of considering moving the bullpens, possibly to Triples Alley, and Bochy said he would "be for it."

"We saw what happened last night and we saw what happened with (Mac) Williamson," Bochy said. "I think we need to stay open-minded about the possibility of moving them. I know they've been there a long time, they were there a long time in Wrigley, too."

The Cubs used to have their bullpens in the same spot, but they remodeled their park a couple years ago to move them indoors underneath the outfield bleachers. Like the Cubs, the Giants have a limited footprint, but they could cut into Triples Alley, or make the decision that their ballpark needs outfielder safety more than a kale garden in center field.

Williamson had his career altered last year when he suffered a concussion while tripping over the left-field bullpen. He was the organization's hottest hitter at the time but hasn't been the same since and was designated for assignment this spring.

Bochy said the staff spoke to Duggar before he was moved from center field to right field, but instincts take over when you're trying to get an out for your pitcher.

"He's aware of (the danger there) but you see a ball in the air and you're going to do all you can to catch it," Bochy said.
