Giants Fans Holding Breath as Belt Takes Pitch to the Head, Exits Game

SAN FRANCISCO -- Brandon Belt was removed from Friday night's game against the Diamondbacks after taking a pitch off the helmet in the sixth inning.

The pitch, a 79 mph curveball from Anthony Banda, hit Belt square on the side of the helmet. He went straight down, holding his head as trainer Dave Groeschner rushed out to the batter's box. Belt was down for a couple of minutes, but he looked to be doing okay when he got up. Still, Groeschner and Bruce Bochy immediately pulled Belt from the game.

Belt missed 46 games with a concussion in 2014 and then the final 15 games the next year. He also sustained a concussion while at the University of Texas.

Belt leads the Giants this season with 18 home runs. He is one away from setting a new career-high.
