Giants Place Alen Hanson on the DL, Call Up Austin Slater

With Joe Panik on the DL, Alen Hanson joined the Giants and provided an unexpected boost.

But now Hanson is joining Panik on the disabled list. The Giants announced the move about five hours before to the series opener against the Reds on Monday.

Hanson tweaked his hamstring during Saturday's game in Pittsburgh. The injury forced him to miss Sunday's game. A day later, the team deemed it a strained hamstring serious enough to require a DL stint.

Outfielder Austin Slater was called up from Triple-A Sacramento to take Hanson's roster spot.

In 14 games with the Giants, Hanson hit .298/.346/.638 with four doubles, four home runs and 12 RBI.
