SAN FRANCISCO -- The John Andreoli Era lasted less than a week.
The outfielder was designated for assignment Tuesday afternoon when the Giants completed a trade for right-handed reliever Jake Barrett, sending cash considerations to the Diamondbacks. Barrett, DFA'd by the Diamondbacks last week, takes the roster spot of Andreoli, who was added last week when the Giants DFA'd reliever Derek Law.
Barrett, 27, was a workhorse for the Diamondbacks in 2016, posting a 3.49 ERA in 68 appearances. He hasn't been at that level since, with a 5.00 ERA in 2017 and a 5.14 in just seven appearances last season.
Barrett has a firm fastball that has sat 95-96 in his big league career and also relies heavily on his slider. He spent most of last season in Triple-A, saving eight games and compiling a 2.87 ERA in the tough Pacific Coast League.
An Arizona native, Barrett was drafted in the third round out of high school and college. He signed with the Diamondbacks in 2012.
