High Prices, Long Shots for 49ers Fans Seeking Playoff Tickets

A trip to Candlestick Park for playoff football is going to cost you.

Take heart, Niner fans -- you can still pick up tickets for the first San Francisco 49ers home playoff game in 10 years.

You'll just have to go long and go high -- as in long shot, and high prices.

A limited amount of tickets to the 49ers' divisional playoff game Jan. 14 went on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning -- and sold out in 30 seconds, fans told the San Francisco Examiner. A spokesman for the team, which did not release the number of tickets sold, said that a sellout wasn't officially registered until 10:30 a.m.

That means fans took to StubHub and other resellers, where prices were high. Some tickets were listed for $5,000 on StubHub; the cheapest ticket was $175.

One fan told the newspaper the choice was between playoff seats for the game or diapers for the fan's three children.

The diapers won.

The last time Candlestick Park hosted playoff football was Jan. 5, 2002.
