The San Francisco 49ers' back-and-forth situation at quarterback is going back again.
The NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reported that the 49ers have decided to resort back to Alex Smith in this Sunday's game against the Seahawks at Candlestick. Coach Singletary confirmed the move in a Tuesday morning appearance on KNBR's Murph and Mac Show.
The Santa Rosa Press Democrat's Eric Branch reports it was Alex Smith's advantage in the "experience factor" that prompted Singletary to give him back the job he's lost to Troy Smith this season.
The provocation of the day comes from the Mercury News' Tim Kawakami. In an article certain to fire up debate among the 49er Faithful, Kawakami says the 49ers' rallying to win more games this season would be a bad thing for the franchise. He argues that a few wins would only serve to keep the crappy Singletary-and-Smiths regime in place for yet another season.
"The worst thing the 49ers could do is start winning games now," Kawakami writes. "In recent years an 11th-hour reprieve has been just enough to persuade gullible 49ers ownership to keep the squalid status quo."
Consider that if the 49ers win too many of their final games, they're out of luck for getting Andrew Luck, the Heisman candidate quarterback from Stanford.
