Jeremy Affeldt was re-signed before the 2012 season for $5 million and it appeared to be a reach by the Giants. That wasn't the case at all, as Affeldt was incredibly impressive at the age of 33.
Now the Giants have reportedly rewarded Affeldt by handing him a new three-year deal worth about $18 million.
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that Affeldt and the Giants have an agreement on the terms of a new deal and the sides may "just be awaiting the results of a physical."
Affeldt posted a 2.70 ERA with 57 strikeouts over 63.1 innings, and was a big part of the Giants miraculous postseason run, as he put together a 10.1 scoreless streak in the postseason.
Heyman reports that the Cardinals, who Affeldt helped stymie, were among a number of different teams that pursued the lefty in the early-goings of the offseason.
The Giants made it clear they wanted to bring Affeldt back, but the issue was whether or not the lefty specialist would end up getting too big of an offer on the free-agent market.
He was a big part of the Giants success and they should be thrilled to have him return.

They'll be even more thrilled if Affeldt and his wife continue to have children. In each of the three years when his children were previously born, Affeldt's team went to the World Series. Once he made it with Colorado and the other two times his wife gave birth, the Giants won the title.
