Kelly: Play Sheet Has Personal Significance

SANTA CLARA – Coach Chip Kelly gave a little insight Thursday into the significance of the backside of the play sheet he carries on the sideline.

On the sheet is a red "S" and a green "8."

The TV cameras show Kelly a lot on the sideline – beginning with his days at Oregon, and carrying over to the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles and, now, the 49ers.

"I have no idea why," Kelly said. "I'm not very photogenic."

"It's just to cover up, because they used to try to zoom in on our game plan," Kelly said. "So I'm trying to cover up our game plan."

So why did he decide on an "S" and an "8"? Is it random?

"No, it's not random," Kelly said. "It means something to me. It's a personal thing."
