Kevin Gausman Knocked Around in Giants' 10-2 Loss to Pirates

The Giants might have left their mojo on the tarmac at LAX on Thursday night.

After taking three of four from the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this week, the Giants have promptly lost the first two games of the homestand to the Pittsburgh Pirates, who are in last place in the NL Central.

The team with the best record in MLB hasn't looked like the best team in baseball the last two nights.

Staff ace Kevin Gausman wasn't sharp from the very first pitch of the Giants' 10-2 loss to the Pirates on Saturday night.

Pittsburgh only scored one run in the first inning, but they milked 25 pitches out of Gausman. He settled down in the second inning, but the Pirates forced another 21 pitches out of him in the third inning and plated two more runs.

Two innings later, the Pirates tacked on three more runs against Gausman and sent him to an early shower. In total, Gausman allowed eight hits, six earned runs and four walks on 89 pitches in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out just two batters.

Gausman has his second straight rough start since the All-Star break, and the Giants need to get him right before his next outing against the Houston Astros on Friday night in Texas.

The game go so out of hand that manager Gabe Kapler used outfielder Mike Tauchman to pitch the ninth inning. He allowed three hits and one earned run.

The Giants did have two bright spots Saturday, but only one came during the game.

LaMonte Wade Jr. connected for his 10th homer of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning, cutting the Giants' deficit to 6-2.

But really, the most memorable moment of the day came a few minutes before the first pitch when Duane Kuiper surprised everyone, including his broadcast partner Mike Krukow, by returning to the booth after taking time off to attend to a medical issue.

The Giants lost Saturday night, but fans everywhere won getting to listen to Kuip's home run call on Wade Jr.'s blast.
