Klay Thompson Hints at #HeadbandKlay for Warriors' 2021-22 Season

Warriors appear to be getting #HeadbandKlay in 2021-22 originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

#HeadbandKlay started as a necessity when Klay Thompson suffered a cut on his forehead during his record-setting 14 3-pointer performance against the Chicago Bulls on Oct. 29, 2018.

It now appears that whenever Thompson makes his 2021-22 NBA season debut, he will bring the headband back.

Back on that jaw-dropping 2018 night in Chicago, after he was forced to don the headband midway through the game, Thompson invoked the famous Will Ferrell character from the movie "Semi-Pro" when talking to reporters after the Warriors' 149-124 win.

"I looked like Jackie Moon out there, so I was feeling good," Thompson joked with reporters after the game. "He's one of my favorite characters in all of sports movies, so that's probably why I broke the record."

Thompson suffered the cut after he collided with then-teammate Damian Jones, but the Splash Brother didn't let a little blood get in way of breaking Steph Curry's single-game record of 13 3-pointers.

"I wasn't gonna let that stop me from attempting this record," Thompson said.

Thompson missed the 2019-20 season with a torn left ACL suffered in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. Then, as he was preparing to return for the 2020-21 season, he tore his right Achilles during a pick-up game on Nov. 18, 2021, the same night the Warriors drafted center James Wiseman with the No. 2 overall pick.

While Thompson is progressing in his rehab and recovery, he's not expected to be ready to play in games for several months. Team president and general manager Bob Myers said the Warriors expect the five-time NBA All-Star to return sometime in December, and ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported on Aug. 20 that Golden State is targeting their Christmas day game against the Phoenix Suns for Thompson's long-awaited return.

Whether Thompson indeed returns on Christmas, or before or after, he's going to come back with a stylish yellow headband, ready to light the nets on fire.
