Klay Leaves Game 1 Early After Scary Fall, Returns to Start Second Quarter

OAKLAND -- Less than six minutes after tipoff of Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday, Klay Thompson limped off the floor and into the locker room with a left leg injury.

He was initially diagnosed with a leg contusion and, according to the Warriors, there is a chance he could return.

As Thompson, 35 feet from the basket, was catching a pass from Stephen Curry, Cavaliers guard JR Smith crashed into him, with Thompson's left knee area taking the brunt of the contact.

Thompson's knee collapsed inward and he dropped to the floor with 6:17 remaining in the first quarter and the Warriors trailing 18-15.

After being helped up, Thompson went immediately into the locker room. Nick Young replaced Thompson in the lineup.

Thompson returned at the start of the second quarter, and missed his first shot attempt -- a three-pointer.
