Klay Thompson's Father Channels Keyshawn Johnson When Discussing Son

Mychal Thompson is routinely is a guest on Bay Area sports radio talk shows and delivers great soundbite after great soundbite.

On Friday morning, he did it again.

How impressed is Klay's father with how his son has become a model of consistency for the Warriors?

"I'm gonna take Keyshawn Johnson's tact," Mychal said on 95.7 The Game. "When I talk to Keyshawn and he talks about all these excellent athletes who perform at a high level. I say, 'Key, aren't you impressed?'

"And Keyshawn always goes, 'Noooooo. I expect him to do that because he's that good.' (laughing). That's what he always kind of says about any athlete who performs at a high level.

"So you kind of expect -- when you're an All-Star and an All-NBA type player -- this is what you're supposed to do. And I am proud that he's doing it and he's playing up to his status and showing his consistency."

The five-time All-Star has been absolutely sensational over his last 28 games. Since Dec. 29, the two-time All-NBA selection is averaging 24.7 points while shooting over 52 percent from the field and 48.3 percent from deep.

He also should be nearly a lock to get the first All-Defense nod of his career.

"He's embracing the challenge to go after after this fourth championship; three in a row for the Warriors," Mychal added. "Klay is 29 now so he's putting everything together -- the mental part of the game, the physical part of the game -- he's just coming into his prime.

"Your best years in the NBA are from ages 28 to 34 because you still have your physical gifts and you have all the experiences to combine them with."

Speaking of "prime" -- everybody expects Klay to re-sign with Golden State this summer. And if he ends up returning on a five-year contract, he would turn 34 years old during the final season of the deal.

What a coincidence!
