Lin Scores Consecutive SI Covers

Joins company of two other NBA players in history.

Jeremy Lin is in rare company this week after scoring his second Sports Illustrated magazine cover in two weeks. Both covers come with a cover story. The list of NBA players to get the honor in consecutive weeks is as follows, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki, Jeremy Lin, and no one else.

Nowitzki made his consecutive covers during last year’s playoffs. Jordan was featured three straight weeks once in 1993 and again in 1998.

The New York Knicks are 9-2 since Lin’s breakout game on February 4th. Tonight he faces his biggest test so far. The Knicks are in Miami to face the Heat. LeBron James told reporters he will guard Lin at times tonight, then added “it could be one of the most watched games we’ve had in a long time.”

Some tickets are going for as much as $10,000 on the secondary market. The Heat have won seven straight games.

Lin is also set to take a place next to Lebron James in Nike’s roster of heavily promoted athletes. The New York Daily News reports the shoe company reworked its deal with Lin.

He signed with Nike after he joined the Warriors as an undrafted free agent in 2010. Nike recently reached out to Lin to make the deal more lucrative. It also plans a promotional campaign centered around Lin.
