Maybe They're Taking Niner Interviews For Practice

The 49ers have interviewed eight individuals for their vacant offensive coordinator position, and they have successfully hired no one. Their search has now gone more than a month. They’ve seen a candidate lured with a lucrative, nebulous “consultant” position with the Cowboys. They’ve seen a guy take a job instead as a tight ends coach. They’ve made one guy an offer, only to be spurned for the -- wait for it -- the Detroit Lions.

The Niners must be worried, because at this point there only 25 other NFL franchises from which they can still poach coaching talent. Wednesday saw them wooing Jets RB Coach Jimmie Raye II. On Tuesday, they actually second-interviewed a candidate Ravens’ QB coach Hue Jackson, seen above looking forlorn in his days as a Bengals assistant. Jackson is better known as the guy whom Bengals receiver Chad Johnson allegedly punched at halftime of a 2005 playoff game. ALLEGEDLY!

And if eight’s not enough, Niners Nation suggests two more candidates. Though one of these suggestions is any live human being capable of playing Madden NFL ‘08.
