McCutchen Joins Long List of Banged Up Giants, Exits Game Early Vs Padres

SAN FRANCISCO -- Another day, another injury scare for the Giants.

Andrew McCutchen was removed from Wednesday afternoon's game in the top of the fourth inning. McCutchen took a 91 mph Clayton Richard fastball off the left elbow during his plate appearance in the second inning and spent considerable time getting checked out by a trainer before going to first.

The Giants entered the day with just four outfielders on the active roster, with Brandon Belt and Alen Hanson as backup options. Gorkys Hernandez shifted from left to right after McCutchen was pulled and Gregor Blanco entered as the left fielder.

McCutchen is hitting just .221, but he has scorched the ball in this series. All three of the balls he put into play Tuesday night were hit hard and he had a single and scored a run in the first inning Wednesday.
