Melky Cabrera's Potential KC Revenge

During the offseason, the Giants traded Jonathan Sanchez to the Royals for Melky Cabrera. I liked the deal at the time and the early results are pretty obvious: the Giants swindled KC.

But that steal of a deal might have an another added layer, as Melky could very well end up returning to Kansas City this year ... for the All-Star Game.

As Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com noted, the likelihood of Melky headed back to BBQ country is strong. Cabrera is fifth in the majors in average, 10th in OBP, sixth in runs scored, first in hits, seventh in total bases, eighth in doubles, first in triples and ninth in offensive wins above replacement.

It's a beasty season and his teammates are quick to recognize it.

“Melky’s … just unbelievable,” said pitcher Ryan Vogelsong. “He’s done nothing but impress everybody in this locker room from the day he got here.”

Cabrera is, as you might expect, a lot more humble about his success.

“Every day I work hard and make sure I prepare myself to take good at-bats,” Cabrera said. “It’s all about preparation, doing whatever I can.”

He's obviously changed the way he prepares over the past few years; Melky got "a little bit fat" at previous spots and he's now in great shape. It's led to him being on pace for another 200-plus hit season and him becoming the best offensive player on the Giants roster.

If he keeps it up a little bit longer, it's going to result in a return trip to Kansas City of the sweetest variety.
