The rich are about to get richer. The Evil Empire is getting a little more evil.
The Yankees are getting close to acquiring Zach Britton, one of the best closers in the game, from the Orioles, according to multiple reports.
Baltimore will reportedly acquire multiple prospects from the Yankees.
Britton missed the beginning of the season while recovering from a torn Achilles. Since returning, he's posted a 3.45 ERA in 15.2 innings over 16 appearances. He's converted four saves.
Britton would join a Yankees bullpen that has an MLB-best 2.75 ERA this season.
At 63-35, the Yankees currently hold the first AL Wild Card spot. The surging A's (58-43 entering Tuesday) are 2.5 game behind the Mariners for the second Wild Card spot.
#Yankees have emerged as clear front-runner for #Orioles' Britton, sources tell The Athletic. NYY scratched RHP Dillon Tate from his start tonight at Double A. As always, no deal is complete until all medicals are approved by both clubs.— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) July 25, 2018
