Nine days ago, Las Vegas deemed the Brooklyn Nets as the favorites to sign unrestricted free agent Kevin Durant.
On Friday, the New York media poured cold water on those odds.
SNY's Ian Begley is reporting that the Nets "are not the front runners or favorites to sign Durant at the moment."
With the start of free agency less than 48 hours away, no one knows which team Durant will pick. The Warriors, Nets, Knicks and Clippers are the teams believed to be the likely suitors for the two-time NBA Finals MVP.
For the last few months, the Nets had been hoping to sign Durant and free agent point guard Kyrie Irving. But as of a week ago, Brooklyn reportedly was debating whether they want to sign just Irving if Durant heads elsewhere.
Durant has been holed up in New York City ever since he tore his right Achilles against the Toronto Raptors in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. As of Thursday, Durant reportedly doesn't plan to meet with prospective teams, but if he does, those talks will happen in the Big Apple.
At this point, the Warriors' front office has to consider it good news that the Nets aren't the front runners to sign Durant.
