NBA Rumors: Warriors ‘intend to Sign' Andrew Bogut for Rest of Season

One of the original building blocks of this Warriors dynasty appears to be close to returning.

The Warriors "have emerged as the frontrunners" for Andrew Bogut, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported Monday, and Bogut intends to sign with his former team when "he receives his letter of clearance from the Sydney Kings," Yahoo's Chris Haynes is reporting.

News linking Bogut and the Warriors first was reported by Charania on Sunday morning.

Bogut has been playing for the Sydney Kings of the National Basketball League in his native Australia. The contract he signed with the Kings in 2018 didn't have an out-clause for him to go back to the NBA, so according to Charania and Haynes, Bogut's agent is working to clear the way for the center to return to the NBA.

In 30 games with the Kings, Bogut averaged 11.4 points and 11.6 rebounds, and was named NBL MVP.

The Warriors haven't filled their 15th and final roster spot all season. They were hoping to use that spot on a current NBA player that had been bought out of their contract, but there was no fit. The Warriors were reportedly interested in Bulls center Robin Lopez, but the two sides weren't able to agree to a buyout before the deadline.

Bogut last played in the NBA in 2018, when he appeared in 23 games for the Lakers. The last time Bogut put on a Warriors uniform was the 2016 NBA Finals, when Golden State lost to the Cavaliers. Following the season, Bogut was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in order for the Warriors to clear salary-cap space to sign Kevin Durant.

Now, Bogut and Durant could be teammates.
