Bassitt returns from scary injury, impresses in short outing originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
Athletics fans gave starter Chris Bassitt a warm ovation Thursday at the Coliseum as he ran out to the mound for the first time since Aug. 17.
That day, he was struck in the face with a line drive off the bat of Chicago White Sox outfielder Brian Goodwin.

Against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday in his return, Bassitt had four strikeouts in three scoreless innings. His first strikeout victim was Kyle Seager, and was the 500th of his career.
He looked solid with consecutive 1-2-3 innings in the second and third frames. And when walking off the field from his swinging strikeout to Mariners first baseman Ty France, he celebrated accordingly by smacking his glove and giving out a roar.
That’s a good thing.
He walked into the dugout giving Melvin a fist bump, followed by hugs and handshakes from teammates.
Bassitt threw 48 pitches in the outing in total, allowing just one hit and one walk.

It was only five weeks ago that the 2021 All-Star was clutching his face as a white towel filled with blood. He underwent facial surgery to fix fractures in his face.
The A's led 3-0 after Bassitt's three innings of work. That was about as strong of a return as you could have.
