Dillon Brooks Suspended Game 3 After ‘Dirty' Gary Payton II Foul

Brooks receives Game 3 suspension after ‘dirty’ GP2 foul originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

The Memphis Grizzlies will be without Dillon Brooks for Game 3 vs. the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the news, and the NBA has now confirmed that guard-forward Brooks “has been suspended one game without pay for having made unnecessary and excessive contact against Golden State Warriors guard Gary Payton II."

The vicious foul and subsequent injury resulted in an immediate Flagrant 2 ejection in Game 2, and Steve Kerr immediately called it a "dirty" play during his in-game interview. Kerr double-downed on those comments postgame, saying Brooks had "broke the code" amongst players. Steph Curry and Draymond Green agreed with Kerr's sentiment.

Payton's fractured left elbow most likely sealed Brooks' fate for Game 3, but in the end, the Grizzlies are only without their enforcer for one game. The Warriors will be without their best Ja Morant defender well beyond this series, no matter the outcome.
