George Kittle Believes 49ers Can Win Super Bowl With Jimmy Garoppolo

Kittle believes 49ers can win Super Bowl with Jimmy G at QB originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Another offseason, another tour of defending Jimmy Garoppolo.

George Kittle has done his best to take advantage of his time away from the field with the 49ers out of the playoffs, but, like everyone, he can't always escape Twitter. He sees the non-stop noise about his friend and quarterback, Jimmy G.

"I definitely see Twitter likes to talk, and in my opinion, that's about all it is," Kittle said Tuesday morning on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football." "It's talk and it's chatter. The Niners aren't in the playoffs this year, so let's look at the biggest headlines and what else is there to talk about except for our handsome quarterback, Jimmy G.

"I think that's all anyone wants to talk about for some reason, but it is what it is."

Garoppolo and the 49ers struggled this season after falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl last season. San Francisco went just 6-10, failing to make the postseason. Garoppolo was hit hard by the injury bug but only threw seven touchdowns and was intercepted five times in the six games he did play.

None of that will sway Kittle away from his belief that the 49ers can become champions with Garoppolo as their starting quarterback. In 2019, Garoppolo led the 49ers to a NFC title in his first season as a full-time starter. He completed 69.1 percent of his passes, threw for 3,978 yards, 27 touchdowns and was intercepted 13 times.

"Jimmy's a hell of a quarterback, took us to a Super Bowl last year," Kittle said. "Unfortunately some injuries prohibited us this year, and I know prohibited him from doing his best. I still believe in Jimmy G. I think he's an incredible quarterback. I think he can lead us to another Super Bowl.

"I think we can win a Super Bowl him, and I can't talk enough about his leadership skills on and off the field."

Garoppolo dealt with two different high ankle sprains that kept him out for multiple games and hindered him when on the field. When the offseason came, the 49ers have been rumored to every QB not named Garoppolo. Matthew Stafford, Deshaun Watson, Aaron Rodgers and every draft prospect possible.

Frankly, Kittle's tired of it.

"I feel like I've answered this question 200 times now since I last talked to you guys after last Super Bowl," Kittle said. "I'll keep dying on the sword, because I think Jimmy G's a fantastic quarterback. He's got an amazing release, he's got a great arm, he's got great touch. I'm happy to have Jimmy G as my quarterback.

"I know that we can win with him."

Kittle clearly will push for Garoppolo to be the 49ers' QB again in 2021. Now, we wait and see if the front office is as committed to Jimmy G as his tight end is.
