NBA Rumors: ‘Optimism' Warriors' Klay Thompson Can Return Vs. Cavs

Report: 'Optimism' Klay can make return Sunday vs. Cavs originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Klay Thompson could make his return to the Warriors on Sunday when Golden State hosts the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Thompson has completed his Achilles rehab and has been working to improve his conditioning while he waits for Rick Celebrini to give him the green light to return to action. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Monday that there is "optimism" that day will be Sunday, but the Warriors will make a final determination after they return from their road trip.

Thompson recently scrimmaged with Steph Curry, sharing the court with his Splash Brother for the first time since the 2019 NBA Finals. The five-time All-Star loved being back on the court with Curry.

"Man, it was great," Thompson said Friday of sharing the court with Curry again. "My shot was short, my breath was short, but after the first five minutes, my jitters were gone. Just playing basketball again, just getting to go up and down with the guys, I haven't had many opportunities to do that. It was a ton of fun and made me realize how special this group can be."

The Warriors have jumped out to a 28-7 record without Thompson and are set to be whole for the first time in almost 1,000 days when the sharpshooter does return.

"We've been working tirelessly for the past year," Thompson told reporters Friday. "It's all going to pay off here soon."
