Warriors' New ‘Oakland Forever' Jersey Replaces ‘The Town' Next Season

Warriors' new 'Oakland Forever' jersey replaces 'The Town' version originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

A new jersey the Warriors will wear during the 2020-21 NBA season leaked on the Internet late last week.

And Golden State made it official Monday morning.

“We know we wanted to celebrate Oakland,” Jen Millet, the franchise's senior vice president of marketing, told The Athletic's Marcus Thompson. “We looked for inspiration from a number of places.

"There was something about that era. It felt like we hadn’t celebrated ‘We Believe’ enough.”

The Warriors honored the 2006-07 "We Believe" squad during the final regular-season game in Oracle Arena history on April 7, 2019.

But this latest move shows an even stronger ode to the city of Oakland.

“Oakland is and forever will be part of this franchise’s identity," Golden State's president and COO, Rick Welts, said in a statement.

In addition to this new one and their standard home and road uniforms, the Warriors will wear the gold "The Bay" jersey from last season.

"The Warriors plan to keep a jersey dedicated to Oakland in the lineup, so the 'We Believe' remix is in the rotation for one year," Thompson writes. " 'The Town' jerseys will be back eventually, but the Warriors will continue with new offerings dedicated to Oakland."
