New Season, Same Old Zito

Barry Zito said all the right things during the Giants' spring training.  The former Cy Young Award winner claimed he was entering this season with a new and more relaxed mind set.

Friday night in San Diego the former ace had his first chance to prove having fun on the mound can also translate to winning there as well.  Unfortunately for Zito, the Padres were the ones providing all the entertainment in his season debut, as San Diego prevailed, 7-3.

Zito ran into trouble right away in the first inning, allowing the Padres to jump out to a 3-0 lead, which they built on from there.  He left the game after four innings, allowing a total of four runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out four.

The game was delayed for 51 minutes due to rain, but after the break in the action it was the Padres who came out swinging, adding a trio of runs in the eighth inning on a Scott Hairston three-run homerun.
