The Los Angeles Rams on Thursday selected University of California, Berkeley, quarterback Jared Goff No. 1 overall in the 2016 NFL draft.
"I'm ready to go, I'm ready to make a difference," Goff said on the NFL Network to fans of his new team, moments after being picked.

Even in a year when the quarterbacks didn't appear to be slam-dunk naturals to make it big in the NFL, that's where the focus was at the start of the draft Thursday night in Chicago. The Rams and Eagles mortgaged a whole chunk of their futures with huge deals to get the top two selections.
The Rams grabbed Goff with the first choice in the draft, and their first choice as the Los Angeles Rams since the 1994 season. The Eagles then selected North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz.

The ceremony began with a tribute to Prince. The NFL showed the musician's 2007 Super Bowl halftime show in the rain in Miami, drawing a loud cheer from some early arriving fans. Prince was found dead in his Minnesota home on April 21.
Hall of Famers such as Bruce Smith, Dick Butkus, Larry Csonka and Marshall Faulk are among 32 former players who will announce picks in the second round of the draft on Friday.
