Nnamdi Asomugha didn't erect a billboard to complain, but he's certainly not pleased with the state of the Raiders' defense. On Wednesday, Asomugha engaged in 537-word angry rant at reporters detailing how he thinks the Raiders' defense is too simple, and why this causes the Raiders to lose.
"The game changes," Asomugha told reporters, in a lengthy diatriabe available in full at the Contra Costa Times. "The game is never going to be the same as it was 10 years ago or five years ago with the rule changes and things like that. You have to be able to adapt."
The Raiders, you'll recall, have insisted on playing man-to-man defensive pass coverage since before women had the right to vote.
"We’re a team that chooses to be who we are regardless of who we’re playing against and regardless of the matchups or the things that the other team is going to present," Asomugha complained. "We’ve got one way of doing it and that’s what we do, and teams can get us into some tough situations. And teams know that."
Asomugha had better be careful. If he keeps this up, Coach Cable might have one of those "accidents" where a slippery chair and a rogue book cabinet leave him with a broken jaw.
“It’s not like we proved it last year or we proved it the year before," Asomugha said. "This is several years now where we haven’t been able to get over the hump of winning more than four or five games a year. Maybe you go back and you think about what we’re doing and think about ways to fix it."
Nnamdi does want them to fix it. He's signed with the Raiders for the next three seasons.
