O'Neil: Redmond Will Remain on Injured Reserve

Rookie cornerback Will Redmond will remain on injured reserve for the remainder of the season, 49ers defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil said on Tuesday.

Redmond’s 21-day practice window closes on Tuesday, and the 49ers must make a decision by 1 p.m. whether to elevate him to the 53-man roster or keep him on injured reserve for the rest of the season.

O’Neil said Redmond is not scheduled to practice on Tuesday.

On Oct. 18, the 49ers opened the 21-day practice window for Redmond to come off the injured reserve list. Last week, 49ers coach Chip Kelly said Redmond was taking part in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 practice drills.

The 49ers placed Redmond, a third-round draft pick from Mississippi State, on injured reserve after the initial cut to 53 players to allow him to continue to rehab from a torn ACL that ended his college career.
