Two days after getting hurt in a collision at home plate, Giants catcher Buster Posey talked about the injury and the hit that appears to have taken him out of the game for the rest of the season.
Posey told reporters during a conference call Friday that is it "highly likely"' he will miss the rest of the season.
Posey said he's in nearly constant pain, but that doctors tell him he will be able to make a complete recovery.
"I think we'll know more once we do some surgery," Posey said when asked for a timeline for his return to the field.
Posey tore three ligaments in his ankle and fractured a bone in his lower left leg when Marlin's Scott Cousins scored a run from third on Wednesday night.
Posey said on the call that what Cousins did was a legal play, adding he holds no ill will against the player. Posey said he didn't want to "vilify "Cousins in any way. The replay shows that Cousins was the first to try to comfort Posey as he rolled on the ground in pain following the play.
Posey said he was going to ask Major League Baseball and the players' union look at ways to protect catchers at home plate in the future.
As for Posey's medical future, he said he seeking out a specialist to perform surgery on his ankle.
